Questions for Media and Digital Technologies

 

1. What is mediation? How do digital technologies illustrate mediation in modern social, political, and economical life?

In short definition mediation is Interaction through media that engages in concrete situations. Nowadays people depend on Media to find out the news which basically means digital technology is our lives because it ruins most of it. Almost every type of communication that isn’t verbal is basically a digital concept.

 

2. What are “new media” and “old media”? How do they compare with “digital media” and “analog media”? How does the emerging of “new media” transform the society each time in the history?

New media is just the way people communicate digitally today. Old Media is described as things like the newspaper, TV, and the radio. Analog media had to do with things like printed paper or magazines and even films. They kind of had a positive and negative conversion from analog media to digital media makes things a lot quicker, faster and easier to get to but in a sense people lose their livelihood skills. For example instead of just looking up at street signs they’re looking down at a GPS on their phone. They are just following that highlighted path instead of looking up to recognize where they’re at physically. 

 

3. How does “remediation” relate to digital media as a continuous format of general media communication?

Remediation is basically just taking an old style media and giving it easier with digital access. For example in New York they have a newspaper and nowadays you can download an app that gives you all the news that you read in the newspaper.

 

4. How do the two characteristics of digital media, convergent and distributed, make social media communication widespread in today’s world? Use some examples to explain.

To simplify the two words convergent and distributed basically just things coming together as one then spreading all over the place. For example the president will hold a Press at the White House and all kinds of journalist and news reporters would be held in this little conference room then wants The president has said what he said the news would be spread by those people because that’s their job and that news will reach all over the world.

 

5. What is technological determinism in understating digital media?

Basically The more technology that is created and expanded on with the current newer generations of phones, computers, Inventions etc. The easier it will be for digital media to broaden and expand with ways of media communication.

 

6. What is the social construction of technology? How does it relate to the history of technology development in media communication?

Technology Is in control of human action even when it’s not what it’s for, humans have made it that our lives are basically depended on these machines to make our lives easier, more efficient and to also connect to others on a whole new level.
